Improving Your Economic Life With Credit Repair

Many individuals have suffered with credit troubles specially in the present economy.  While we all want to have excellent credit the reality is that sometimes life throws us a curveball and things ensue that are past our control.  However, credit problems can create a enormous quantity of trouble for someone because with low credit scores and bad credit it is difficult if not impossible to get credit, you can be charged much higher interest rates or you may have to put down more security if you do obtain credit.

On the other hand, there are some actions you can take to credit repair.  The very first thing to do is to get a up-to-date credit report from each of the three credit reporting bureaus.  In the United States they are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.  Each year you are allowed one credit report for free or you can also get a merged report that contains all three in one for a fee.

Once you have your credit report, you need to examine it thoroughly for accurateness.  It is very rare that a credit report is completely accurate as it is projected that as many as 79% of all credit reports contain untrue information.  You have the right to dispute anything that you believe may be an inaccuracy or anything that may not be absolutely correct.

Credit reporting bureaus make their money by gathering information and selling it, whether the information is truthful or not is not their concern since they get paid for the information regardless.  You are the only one who suffers if the information is wrong.  You must do whatever you can to make sure that it is accurate.

Back in the 1970’s the Fair Credit Reporting Act was enacted to protect consumers.  This law gives you the right to dispute anything that you deem to be incorrect or inaccurate on your credit report.  You must submit a formal written dispute to the credit agencies and after they receive the dispute they have between 30 and 45 days to either validate the accuracy of their listings or erase it from your credit report.

As a consumer you in fact have a benefit when it comes to disputing credit listings.  Since the credit bureaus are only paid to supply information it is actually a loss to them when they have to validate a dispute.  Therefore if you put forth a good case, you have a very favorable chance of getting the information removed.

It is also intelligent to start rebuilding good credit and paying down the amounts on any debts that you have.  A large portion of your credit score is attributed to how much credit you have accessible compared to how much credit you have used.  The highest credit scores belong to the individuals who have access to credit but never use it.

You can rebuild and repair your credit, you just need to take some actions to get started.  If your financial situation such as your current income and job are in order, then now is the time to do whatever it takes to repair your credit.
