Since the year 1967 individuals have been enjoying and playing the sport of ultimate frisbee. A goup of college kids started the game while they were hanging out together. Lots of individuals already played frisbee as a past time, but these kids wanted to make it a lot more competitive and entertaining for themselves. One of the kids had the name of Joel Silver and he helped to spread the sport further when he transferred to a college in Lafayette in the year 1970.
It wasn’t until 1972 that ultimate Frisbee competitions began taking place among colleges. In the early days of the college competitions, there weren’t a lot of teams, but the trend continued and grew. As a result of this rapid growth, there were 20 teams in competition against each other by the year 1975. By 1979 things had grown so much that regions were drawn so that teams could play against those locally. The best tems would be allowed at the end to compete to see who was the best team of the year.
It wasn’t just the college kids that were enjoying ultimate Frisbee though. You could find a lot of Frisbee clubs in the land by the yin the warmer year 1976 especially in the warmer climate states like Florida and California. It became a regualr thing to come across individuals playing ultimate frisbee on the beaches while taking advantage of the beautiful climate. Spectators would frequent these beach games as well, lots of times in crowds that were quite large, all for the joy of seeing who came out on top.
It wasn’t long after this, in the year 1980 to be exact, that an association of players was put together known as the Untimate Players Association. They recognized the diverse teams that wanted to take part in ultimate Frisbee. They also set up official ultimate frisbee rules of the sport that were to be followed in the regional tournaments they hosted. The temas who took their divisions were then allowed to compete in a championship match. The association would then recognize the winning team as national Ultimate Frisbee champions.
Ultimate Frisbee competitions continue to take place all over the world today. The greatest popularity of the sport can still be found at the university level. Competitions between clubs is still quite popular and you can acquire many clubs around the nation still. As a form of physical fitness, the game is being intoroduced into P.E. classes in many numerous grade schools. Many students develop quite a love and interest in the sport through these young introductions to it. As these kids age, they have a tendency to move into university level frisbee, or move into playing ultimate frisbee with local clubs.
