Before the recognition of a specific quality average, various aerospace corporations used ISO 9000 and their own method of quality documentation and requirements such as Boeing’s D1-9000 or the automotive Q average. Then, the well-established American aerospace manufacturers combined their efforts to constitute a single, unified quality average called the AS9000 or the Aerospace Basic Quality System Average. When AS9000 was released, major aerospace companies like Boeing stopped using their previous quality documentation action and shifted to AS9000 average.
