At the beginning of October 2011, the International Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), of which the UN Aliment and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is a member, urged for bigger management and protection of forests in and encircling cities. The necessity for attention toward urban and peri-urban forestry is a consequence of the constantly increasing share of earth population living in cities and their surroundings, which in turn implies that countries and governments demand to place more efforts into urban forestry-related policies, legislation and increased amounts of forestry investments into a greener urban landscape.
