The two most active segments of the collection industry are “early outside programs” and “debt buying”. These segments of the collection industry are polar opposites in terms of the collectability of the accounts. Early outs are most prevalent in medical collections and represent accounts that typically have been billed and may have had a series of letters sent requesting insurance data in addition to asking for payment.
