Until 70s, asbestos was a regularly used in buildings, and when the toxic nature of the material was learned, some of those buildings were torn down, exposing the construction staff to asbestos silicates which have poisoned them. Much today, it is imaginable to find asbestos in some buildings, however there are immediately strict laws about how it can be removed, ensuring that human beings are not exposed to the same risk. For those who were construction workers in 70s and early 80s, the exposure to asbestos has resulted in serious illnesses, including a quick-moving cancer called mesothelioma.
