Tantalum is represented by the Ta symbol and has an atomic number of 73. The element itself is a lustrous grayish-blue colored, dense transition metal that is considered to be rare in the Earth’s crust. Tantalum was previously called tantalium, which originated from Tantalus, one of Greek mythology’s many heroes.
