Sports is one thing most people participate in one form or another. This is how most people usually attain in getting their physical exercise. For others it is a very serious endeavor, some even doing it for a living. What people don’t realize is that being athletic helps in sports, but the mind also plays a big role. So in this article we are going to look at how the mind impacts sports.
There is no more glaring fact that shows how important the mind is in sports then when you watch professional sports. You will notice that although most of the athletes look similar physically, some are better than others. And this is due to the fact that some have minds which are stronger compared to others. You see it when great athletes choke under pressure. That is when the mind is not being used to it’s full potential. As a La Jolla sports pychologist working with athletes has helped me see how true that is.
Now working in the sports pyschology field has also allowed me to see how the mind can derail good athletes. These are the athletes that usually have it all but family matters can cause them to fail under pressure. That is when many families call my family therapist practice to help them excel. That is when I notice with my very eyes how working with the mind can improve their lot in life.
Most of the time I’ve also noticed how some athletes also fail because they can’t seem to rein in their anger. This anger causes them to not perform as well during contests. A lot of times just being able to address them in my anger management San Diego practice has helped them. By reining in their anger they can pretty much enjoy success.
So the main thing to understand is that the mind is so important to success in sports. If you really want to excel in sports you have to also train your mind.
