Affinity Fraud

One of the most common and destructive kinds of fraud encircling these days is relationship or affinity fraud. This crime involves a person who uses an affinity or relationship to lure the victim into some sort of scam. A classic example of affinity fraud was Ponzi master Bernie Madoff who abused his Jewish faith to lure fellow worshippers at his synagogue to invest in his pyramid scheme. Affinity fraudsters like to join organizations such as churches, clubs and supply organizations and then employ the friendships they develop there to talk members into putting their money into the scheme.
