The Price of Fear

The VIX is the value of dread. Small for ‘volatility index’, it measures expected prospect volatility in the market as implied by the value of a range of at the money index options (both calls and puts) on the S&P500. The index was first introduced in 1993 by the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
