The at the end year has seen the microfinance industry criticized and in some cases compared with the sub-prime mortgage crisis that started in the US in 2007. Indeed there is a crisis of confidence in the sector owing to such issues as over indebtedness, commercialization of Microfinance institutions and a lack of interest rate transparency, not to mention the trials and tribulations of the Nobel Prize winner, Mohamed Yunus.
