When Cuts Are Not Cuts

There is a abundance of conversation in Washington about cutting the federal budget. The liberals and conservatives hash it outside for weeks and months on end, finally come up with a compromise, and then announce to American taxpayers “the largest budget divide in American history” totaling into the hundreds of billions of dollars. Both sides claim victory and assert that their efforts alone will keep the earth from coming to an end. The troubles deepen when things get sorted outside and the taxpayers learn the administration is spending more than it did before the cuts. What gives? That’s when we learn that the budget cuts were made from the amounts the politicians wanted to spend, not from what was really spent in the previous budget year.
