The administration’s relatively recent choice to reduce the duty on fuel and suspend the so-called “fuel escalator” has generally been welcomed by haulage companies. The position on fuel duty has immediately become so complicated, that each driver in a cab probably needs to be accompanied by a maths graduate and a super-machine if they are to have any hope of understanding just how the value they’re paying at the pumps relates to anything in the absolute earth.
